A project for a vacation house in a subdivided residential area with hot spring facilities developed during Japan’s bubble economy.

To anticipate future neighboring buildings, the house occupies most of the site—excluding parking—and is organized around a central courtyard carved from within. Large openings from the living room and bathroom toward this courtyard create a seamless connection between interior and exterior. Shielded from surrounding views, the design offers a private and calming retreat for weekend stays.
